Exciting Changes in Leadership Signal Continued Success

Our senior management team has undergone some changes lately, and two of the team’s “new” faces are quite familiar to longtime residents and staff members.

Alexis Martinez: A Purposeful Path

When Joni Condit decided to retire as president and CEO of La Posada Communities, Alexis Martinez, who had been preparing to lead our organization for nearly two decades, was chosen as her successor.

Alexis started her career at La Posada at Green Valley in 2003 as the receptionist at our La Perla apartments when they first opened. A recipient of the La Posada scholarship program, which is funded by residents, Alexis earned her bachelor’s degree and then went on to obtain a master’s degree in public administration.

It was during a scholarship program reception in 2005 that she set her sights on becoming CEO.

“I manifested this,” Alexis says. “I always thought that this was what I wanted to do. Once you’re part of La Posada and you work with the residents, you just fall in love with it. And this is where I wanted to be for the long term.”

Her next role was in human resources, where she started out as a project specialist. During her 10-year stint in HR, she gained experience in and knowledge of customer service, risk management, workers’ compensation and other vital areas.

Learning the Ropes, Communitywide

Joni Condit and our CEO before her, Lisa Israel, both saw the potential Alexis had and created an internship program specifically for her.

“I was very fortunate that they did that for me,” Alexis says. “I was able to work in every single department on campus to learn all of the operations. That really prepared me to get to know all of the different operational aspects of our business, financially, strategically.

“Little did I know that that was what was prepping me for my next big step.”

Overseeing the Emergence of a Brand-New Community

Alexis was promoted to the role of executive director of La Posada at Pusch Ridge more than a year before the community welcomed the first residents in March 2025. Now that she transitioned into the role of president and CEO of La Posada Communities in May 2026, one of her first responsibilities will be finding a new executive director for the Pusch Ridge community.

“I won’t lie. It was difficult to leave that position, but I know I’ll find just the right person to fill it,” she says.

“We want somebody who will have the same compassion and integrity we look for in all of our employees, and also somebody who has that forward-thinking mentality of innovation. Especially because we’re in such a growth mode in the Oro Valley community. We’re going to be growing exponentially up there, with plans for assisted living and memory care already in the works.”

Alexis says she plans to continue the regular CEO-resident meetings that were a feature of Joni’s tenure as CEO.

“That’s definitely one of my promises to the residents, is to continue the legacy of listening to them and the legacy of our beautiful culture of La Posada.”

Some residents have known Alexis since her early years in our Green Valley community and have watched her move up through the organization’s ranks.

“I’ve received so many letters and cards, and the hugs and the phone calls. They’ve been very excited for me,” she says.

What’s on the Horizon at La Posada at Pusch Ridge

As Alexis mentioned, one of the biggest projects in our Pusch Ridge community in Oro Valley will be the building for assisted living and memory care.

“We hope to have those levels of care ready for residents of La Posada at Pusch Ridge within two to three years,” she notes.

“We’re also in the process of planning our Mountain View homes, which will be our freestanding, single-family homes for residents who want a larger home. We’re looking at about 28 homesites.

“We’re also planning a community park,” she says. “We want to be good community partners with the town of Oro Valley and have a nice, large, open space available to the community.”

Growth for La Posada at Green Valley, too

Although the focus in the next few years will be on expanding the new Pusch Ridge community, we’re equally enthused about the new Cultural and Arts Building we’ll be constructing in the heart of our Green Valley community.

“We’re thrilled that before long we’ll have another amenity to offer residents here on our campus. We have so many artists here, and it will be amazing to bring them all together under one roof,” Alexis says.

In the meantime, you can check out residents’ artwork and photography (and get a great cuppa joe) in Posada Java, the coffee shop and gathering place at the Shoppes at La Posada, which is open to the public. The art and photographs are for sale and are rotated out every couple of months.

“Our vision for the future at La Posada Communities is one of organic, intentional growth,” Alexis notes. “Really embracing technology and just kind of moving us into our next era.”

Tim Carmichael: Coming Full Circle to VP Again

Although Tim Carmichael joined La Posada Communities as our vice president of sales and marketing in March, his history with our organization goes back to 2001, when he started out as vice president.

In 2014, Tim headed up the sales effort for a planned, 80-acre senior living wellness community in Oro Valley that eventually evolved into La Posada at Pusch Ridge. He also worked for a senior housing consulting firm for seven years, several of which were on behalf of La Posada.

‘It’s in My DNA’

Tim notes that he and a sister grew up as “second-generation” children, meaning they had siblings who were more than a decade older than they were. Consequently, many of their social interactions were with family members, including cousins, who were considerably older.

His early jobs were with businesses that served customers and members in their 60s and older. Later, he spent 10 years marketing Medicare managed care plans in the Tucson area.

Tim says he’s a “gerontologist by education” and has stayed within areas that interest him throughout his career—namely, serving seniors.

“I’ve had the fortune to put my training and education to work in order to help people get to a better living environment,” he says. “I’ve helped numerous people over the years who would be considered in the stage of life called “failure to thrive.” Reorienting people in this situation and seeing the positive impact the new orientation has on their outlook, lifestyle and life is very rewarding.”

Tim’s Vision for His New VP Role

When asked what he’s most excited about now that he’s back at La Posada Communities, Tim says: “I work with very talented, dedicated and focused people every day. We all recognize that our work touches and affects not only the lives of our residents but their friends and family, too.”

Tim has worked as a chef, says he used to be a good golfer and would like to learn to play guitar. He lives with his wife, Mary, and their two cats and two dogs.

Have We Piqued Your Interest?

Like everyone who lives and works in our communities, the members of our senior management team are down to earth and accessible. It’s an element of the beautiful La Posada culture.

Our communities in Green Valley and Oro Valley stand in contrast to each other in many ways, but as a resident in either La Posada community you can expect excellence in service and quality of care, along with the benefits of living in a nonprofit community.
